Breathwork Participant Declaration

Breathwork can be a powerful tool to support physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. It may bring up strong sensations, emotions or memories. By taking part, you acknowledge that you are choosing to participate voluntarily and take responsibility for your own wellbeing during the session.

Before your session

HydrationDrink plenty of water before your session.
FoodTry not to eat any heavy meals 1–2 hours before a session. Avoid alcohol.
ClothingWear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing so you can move and breathe freely.
SpaceFind a quiet, comfortable space where you won't be disturbed and can fully relax.

Contraindications

Breathwork is generally very safe. However, it is not recommended if you:

  • Are pregnant.
  • Have epilepsy or a history of seizures.
  • Have uncontrolled cardiovascular conditions (e.g. high blood pressure, heart conditions).
  • Have glaucoma or increased intraocular pressure.
  • Have had recent surgery or a significant injury.
  • Have severe asthma or other serious respiratory conditions.
  • Have a diagnosis of psychosis or bipolar disorder.
  • Are taking medication that significantly affects brain chemistry (e.g. antipsychotics, MAOIs or other psychoactive medication).

If any of the above apply to you, or if you are unsure whether breathwork is suitable, please consult your GP or a qualified healthcare professional before participating. The facilitator cannot provide medical advice and it is your responsibility to seek guidance from a healthcare professional.

After your session

RehydrateDrink water to support your body.
RestGive yourself time to rest and integrate the experience.
ReflectYou may notice emotions or new insights. Take time to journal or be in nature if it feels helpful.
Seek supportIf you feel overwhelmed after the session, reach out to a trusted friend, therapist or healthcare professional.
